Track student athletes look to qualify for state
Ten student athletes from Oakdale competed in the LSU Last Chance Indoor Meet Saturday in their third meet of the season with hopes of qualifying for the State Indoor Track Meet back at LSU.
"I am proud of these student athletes for their dedication and hard work," said head coach Michael Deville. "They competed against the best in the state in all classes this weekend. I expect most of these competitors to qualify (for state)."
James Evins jumped 20'3/4" in the long jump to finish ninth overall and second in his division. He also clocked a 7.44 seconds in the the 60-meter dash good enough for eleventh in his division.
Jondasha Davis came out fifth overall and first in division jumping 16'8.5" inches in the high jump. She then finished sixth in the division running the 60-meter dash.
Other jumpers placing for Oakdale were Corianna Moreaux coming out fourteenth overall and fouth in division in the high jump and coming out seventeenth overall and fifth in the division in long jump, Annisa Moton in the triple jump finished tenth, and Sanaa St. Andre placed seventeenth overall and third in her division competing in the triple jump.
She and Darien Phillips placed in shot put. St. Andre was twelth overall and fourth in her division, and Phillips shotted overall good enough for nineteenth and seventh in the division.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Phillip Poullard hurdled his way to a eleventh place finish is his division. Also placing for Oakdale was Shadiomond Johnson finishing seventh in her division in the 400-meters.
Poullard also competed in the long jump, and Myresha Johnson and Miliak Hayward competed in the 60-meter hurdles and the 60-meter dash respectively.
The State Indoor Meet will be held February 18, 2017.
