Oakdale tennis serves up a winning day against Grace Christian
Zealon Solomon is upbeat about his tennis teams this year at Oakdale that is returning 15 players from last year including seven who qualified for state last year. With a younger team and a tough schedule ahead against Bolton and Leesville, the coach assuredly says "It should be a good season ahead."
"We’re gonna compete overall," continued Solomon. "Consistency is a lot better from last year. It’s just gonna take a lot of gelling together for our younger players to come through."
The first match of the season was Saturday at the Alexandria City Park Tennis Courts against a Grace Christian team that is well familiar to Oakdale. "It’ll be a regional match against one of our 10 regional opponents," said Solomon before the first serve. "We’ve been successful in the past against them. It should be a nice competitive day, and we’ll see how it turns out overall."
The day turned out well for Oakdale winning 21 out of 26 matches. Team captains Andrew Sao and Kris Pelt led the boys to 13-1 on the day, while captain Cheyenne Bertrand led her girls to 8-4.
Oakdale now enjoys a three match home stand against Jennings on February 9, Leesville on February 13, and Welsh on February 14.
